Bobby Drake

Bobby, or like most in the fire service, "Drake" has spent his career in both volunteer and career positions, working in a combination department and fully understanding the unique dynamics of each. As an Operations Battalion Chief with Hanover Fire-EMS, he’s spent over 25 years helping crews grow, training the next generation of firefighters, and working to advance the fire service.

As someone who became disgruntled and entitled early in his career, Bobby was the guy no one wanted to be around. Recognizing a need for change through self-awareness and becoming a student of followership, he is now unapologetic about his passion for the job and is always looking for ways to raise the standard and prevent others from following in his footsteps.

Beyond the firehouse, Bobby is still active in teaching both on the drill ground and in the classroom. He is the co-author of Fire Engineering Books, The Training Officer’s Handbook, and serves on the NFPA Fire Services Training Technical Committee.

Away from work, Bobby’s world revolves around his daughter, Lilly, and fiancée, Sara. Whether he’s cheering Lilly on at her track meets, traveling with Sara, or spending a relaxing day on the water, he values the time that keeps him grounded. You’ll often find him with a strong cup of coffee in hand, engaged in conversation—not to micromanage, but to empower others, encourage good decision-making, and ensure his team has the tools and trust to succeed.
